Andrew College announces highest-ever enrollment 

Cuthbert, GA. (August 29, 2024)-Andrew College announces it will start the 2024-2025 academic year with the highest enrollment in its 170-year history. The 496 students enrolled represent a 68.8% increase from the 294 students enrolled last fall. This growth is reflected across all student types, as on-campus, commuter, online, and dual enrollment all saw growth this fall. This marks the third consecutive term of increased enrollment for the Randolph County United Methodist institution. 

Despite national trends, Andrew College has continued to see positive enrollment trends. “Bringing in record enrollment proves that the Andrew education is relevant and important to southwest Georgia and beyond,” President William R. Kennedy said. “This is an exciting time of change as we implement new programming. You can feel the excitement and energy on campus.” 

Explore some fast facts about the 2024–25 student body: 

  67% of students are from Georgia. 

  68% of them live in on-campus housing. 

  87% increase in on-campus housing from last fall.  

52% first-time freshman.

CUTHBERT, GA. – Dr. Calandra Lockhart has been selected as the new Vice President of Academic Affairs at Andrew College.
Dr. Lockhart joins Andrew College from Louisburg College, a minority-serving private institution related by faith to the United Methodist Church, in Louisburg, North Carolina, where she served as the Vice President of Academic Life and Chief Academic Officer.
“Andrew College is delighted to welcome Dr. Calandra Lockhart back home to southwest Georgia in her vital campus role,” said Dr. William R. Kennedy, President of Andrew College. “Not only does Dr. Lockhart share our institutional values, but she is also a leader with a track record of academic excellence, faculty support, and collaborative leadership. The institution is fortunate to have her during this pivotal time.”
Dr. Lockhart has extensive experience in higher education. Prior to her time at Louisburg College, Dr. Lockhart served as the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs at Otero College in LaJunta, Colorado. Before Otero College, she was the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Manor
College in Jenkintown, PA. She also served as the Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Dean of the Division of Education at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. Dr. Lockhart earned her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Auburn University, earned her Masters of Education from Auburn University, and her Bachelor of Science degree in Education, from Troy University. Dr. Lockhart is originally from Columbus, Georgia.

Andrew College Adds 4 new Board of Trustee Members this Spring

New members join Andrew College Board of Trustees – CUTHBERT, GA (March 15, 2024)-The Andrew College Board of Trustees held their spring meeting on Friday, April 19th. During the meeting, the board welcomed four new trustees: Scott Curry, Chuck Knight, Allen London, an Larry Stewart. Mr. Curry, a Shellman native, is a 1998 Andrew grad and serves as President of First State Bank of Randolph County. Rev. Knight is from Albany and serves as Executive Pastor of Porterfield Methodist Church. Mr. London, a 1989 Andrew grad, resides in Macon and is the Senior Associate Vice President for Advancement at Mercer University. Dr. Stewart is a 1973 Andrew grad and retired government official and former college instructor and administrator from Forsyth.
Andrew College Board Chairman George Flowers stated, “We are excited to add four new Trustees to our Andrew College Board. Dr. Kennedy and I had the pleasure of visiting with each of them. Each brings a unique set of talents, skills, and experience that will add to the depth of our Board. We are truly grateful that they committed to serve the College.”
To join the Board of Trustees, individuals must first be nominated, then go through an approval process involving the Nominating and Executive Committees of the Board before being brought to the full board for final approval. These new members must also complete a trustee orientation with the board chair and College administrators. Two New Bachelor Degrees offered at Andrew College starting Fall 2024 – CUTHBERT, GA (March 15, 2024)-Andrew College will add two new bachelor degree programs for Fall 2024 – the Bachelor of Science in Sports Management and the Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness. The addition of these two programs will bring the bachelor degree offerings to five: Agribusiness, Business Administration, Elementary Education, Organizational Leadership, and Sports Management.
These five bachelor programs will offer a variety of career opportunities for Andrew College students and an opportunity for them to continue their college careers at Andrew through the four-year level.
As the name suggests, Agribusiness will focus both on agriculture and business. Accounting, management, economics, Ethics, plant and crop production, world agriculture, community development, and agriculture data management and analysis are some of the topics covered in this degree. Sports Management will focus on sports management, sport and society, accounting, management, marketing, and organizational leadership.
“These two new bachelor degree programs provide paths to new careers and subject demands of students. For 170 years, Andrew College has met the ever-changing needs of our students and our society. Spring Enrollment at its highest total in 21 years at Andrew College

CUTHBERT, GA (January 18, 2024)-Andrew College’s Spring 2024 enrollment figure of 288 shows a 37% increase in enrollment from last spring when there were 211 students. The increase is due to strong retention and a robust incoming spring class of new students. This is the highest spring enrollment since 2003 at the Southwest Georgia Methodist Institution. “At Andrew College, we strive to put our students first; we are here to help them attain a quality education that will benefit them and enable them to give back to their communities,” said Dr. William R. Kennedy, President. “I want to thank the hard work and dedication of Mrs. Heather Bradley, our Executive Director of Admissions and Marketing, along with the enrollment staff, student affairs, faculty, and coaches. This accomplishment was a team effort.”

Academic Dean Karan Pittman Receives Georgia Humanities “Governor’s Awards for the Arts & Humanities”

ATLANTA, GA (Dec. 12, 2023)-Karan Pittman, Academic Dean at Andrew College, received the Governor’s Award for the Arts and Humanities at the award ceremony presented by the Georgia Humanities in partnership with the Office of the Governor of the State of Georgia and the Georgia Council for the Arts. Pittman was recognized as an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the civic and cultural vitality of the state. Her passion for Cuthbert and the state of Georgia is evident in her work of restoring historical buildings in the area while documenting the history. Pittman has written or co-authored several local history books, one of which, “The Lena Baker Story”, was made into a movie. Dean Pittman remarked, “I am honored and humbled to receive this award. The support of many people and organizations in the community allowed me to be presented the Governor’s Award for the Arts and Humanities.” Andrew College, President William Kennedy stated, “No one deserves this award more than Dr. Pittman! Her dedication and passion for the history of Cuthbert, Randolph Country, Andrew College, and Southwest Georgia is unmatched and an inspiration to us all. Now more people across the state know what we down here in southwest Georgia have long understood, Dr. Karan Berryman Pittman is a Georgia treasure.” For twenty-five years, Georgia Humanities has acknowledged community members and organizations that help to advance the appreciation and comprehension of the humanities in our state with the Governor's Awards. In 2012, Georgia Humanities partnered with the Georgia Council for the Arts and the Office of the Governor to create the Governor's Awards for the Arts & Humanities, a new and improved version of the recognition program.

Andrew College will begin play in Fall 2024 at the NJCAA level. "We are excited to add football to our growing list of athletic offerings at Andrew College. Fighting Tiger Football will increase campus vibrancy and allow many students to gain a quality education while continuing to participate in the sport they love right here in southwest Georgia," stated Dr. Kennedy. Dr. Nicholas Garrett, a veteran coach with extensive ties from coast to coast, will lead the charge for football's inaugural season. "We had an impressive pool of applicants for our position, but Dr. Garrett stood out and impressed us with his vision, passion, and commitment to being a part of something special here at Andrew College," mentioned President Kennedy. Before arriving at Andrew College, Garrett spent six plus years at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Georgia where he led the program to its 1st Playoff appearance and victory in GHSA school history and was named Coach of the Year 2019. Garrett was also the Head Coach at Santa Clara High School in Oxnard, California. Prior to these stops, he spent time at the college level at Bethel College, Western New Mexico University, East Los Angeles College, and Kansas Wesleyan University. Garrett remarked on becoming the new Head Coach of the Fighting Tigers, "My family and I are thrilled to join the Andrew College community. This is a destination job at a program in the grassroots stages of something truly special. I am in total alignment with Dr. Kennedy's vision and mission for all things Andrew College and the future of the football program. I can't wait to continue to build upon a tremendous foundation of rich historical culture. This is a world-class institution of higher education and the entire community of exceptional like-minded professionals at Andrew College." Coach Garrett is a California native who received his Bachelor's from Graceland University in Iowa. He earned his Master's degree from Concordia University in Coaching, Athletic Administration, and Exercise Science and his Ph.D. from North Central University in Higher Education Leadership. Andrew College Theatre (A.C.T.) to present Driving Miss Daisy by Alfred Uhry

CUTHBERT, GA (November 6, 2023)-After postponing our October production due to unforeseeable circumstances, Andrew College Theatre is excited to announce the new performance dates for the beloved Southern play, Driving fv1iss Daisy by Alfred Uhry. Winner of the 1988 Pulitzer Prize, the play was turned into an Oscar-winning film with Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy. Set in Atlanta, the play traces the 25-year friendship between Daisy, a sharp-tongued Jewish widow, and Hoke, the thoughtful, unflappable African-American chauffeur hired by her son after she wrecks her car. The amusing and moving scenes between the three characters are set against the backdrop of the Atlanta Civil Rights movement. Evening performances are at 7:30 on Thursday, November 30, and Saturday, December 2.
One matinee for the general public is at 2:30 on Sunday, December 3. A school matinee will be held at 11 AM on Friday, December 1. All performances are in the Liddie Murphy Theatre in the Old Main Building, 501 College Street, Cuthbert, GA. There is no admission fee, but donations are welcome.

Enrollment at highest total in four years at Andrew College

CUTHBERT, GA (August 23, 2023)-Andrew College’s fall 2023 enrollment figures show a 19% increase in enrollment from last fall. This number is primarily due to a first-time freshman class that is the largest in four years and robust re-enrollment. The number of students residing in on-campus housing is also up 22% to its highest total since the fall of 2020.

“Since 1854, Andrew has offered students a quality education and individualized attention and worked to meet the needs of southwest Georgia,” said Dr. William R. Kennedy, President of Andrew College. “I want to thank the hard work and dedication of our enrollment staff, student affairs, faculty, and coaches this past year. Our entire campus community understands we are here for our students and want to help them succeed.”

$1.5 Million Gift Establishes Andrew College Nursing Chair

CUTHBERT, GA (May 22, 2023)-Andrew College has announced the establishment of the Aderhold Chair of Nursing thanks to an endowed gift of $1.5 million from Andrew Alumni Tom and Kay Aderhold in support of the College’s nursing program. Dr. Linda R. Buchanan, President of Andrew, describes the gift as one of the largest individual gifts in the history of the College and a ringing endorsement of the importance of Andrew’s efforts to graduate superior registered nurses to serve Southwest Georgia. 

Buchanan stated, “We are so grateful to Tom and Kay Aderhold for their continuing and significant generosity. We could not have started our nursing program in 2017 without their initial support, and this gift just solidifies their commitment to their alma mater.”

Board of Trustee Chair George Flowers added, “This gift solidifies Andrew’s commitment to nursing education and will motivate others to support the College and our nursing program. We are deeply grateful to the Aderholds for their generosity.”
